On 15 September 2017 my investigators arrested two public officers.

A 44-year-old woman of no permanent fixed South Australian address has been charged with deception and dishonestly dealing with documents in relation to her application for public sector employment. The alleged offending is said to have occurred between 24 May 2017 and 27 June 2017. She has also been charged with abuse of public office, which is alleged to have occurred on 28 August 2017, after she had commenced employment in the public sector.

A 40-year-old man, also of no permanent fixed South Australian address, has been charged with deception and aiding and abetting the woman’s alleged offending.

Both public officers have been bailed and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday 3 November 2017 at 10:00am.

I have also commenced a maladministration investigation into the recruitment process that resulted in the woman’s public sector appointment. At the conclusion of the maladministration investigation I will decide whether or not it is in the public interest for that investigation report to be made public and in doing so I will take into account the then status of any criminal prosecutions.

Both investigations are ongoing.

As the criminal matter is now before the court I will make no further comment.
