Statement by the Hon. Ann Vanstone KC
Commissioner, Independent Commission Against Corruption

On 10 November I announced I would conduct a review of the investigation of former Renewal SA Chief Executive, Mr John Hanlon and the conduct of those involved in it.

I had hoped to have that review completed by now. However, during the course of it material has been uncovered, which I have determined requires independent examination.

I have briefed independent solicitors and Senior Counsel, who have already commenced that examination.

I have discussed the ambit of my review and this new material in some depth with the Commission Reviewer, the Hon. John Sulan KC. He has agreed with the course of action I proposed.

This development has necessarily delayed the completion of my review.

I look forward to meeting with the new Commission Inspector, Mr Philip Strickland SC, after he commences in the role on Monday. I will brief Mr Strickland at the earliest opportunity in relation to all aspects of the Hanlon matter and do whatever I can to assist Mr Strickland in his assessment of the investigation and prosecution of Mr Hanlon.

I will not make further comment on this matter until my review and the independent examination have been completed.
